We are delighted to invite you to join us at the Inaugural Conference for UK Primary and Secondary Heads of Jewish Studies. This one-day conference, in partnership with M², will focus on 18×18 : “What are the things that a Jewish person should know, care about and be able to do, and how do these things drive our work as Jewish educators?”
The 18 Educational Dimensions of Jewish Life is a framework for envisioning the purpose and goals of Jewish education. M² has developed this framework into an innovative tool to help educators discuss and deepen the educational interventions they implement.
The 18 Dimensions of Jewish Life are the constituent components of Judaism, for example, “Jewish Texts, Torah and Core Narratives”, “Israel and its People”, “Jewish Role Models”, “Judaism’s Relevance to Life’s Questions”. Together, the 18 Dimensions are the pieces of the puzzle that comprise an engaged and thriving Jewish life. Using this framework educators are able to map what their schools look like and envision the future.
The 18×18 is particularly helpful in a school context because it allows for both a “birds-eye” view of the school as a whole, in which many (or all) dimensions can be present, as well as a “zoom-in” look at specific curricula or topics which may focus on a small number of dimensions.
