Rosh Pinah Jewish Primary School is a Modern Orthodox Jewish school which was founded in 1956. The school is affiliated with the United Synagogue and is a Scopus Jewish Day School.
We are a two form co-educational voluntary-aided school based in Edgware, London that caters for 480 children. Our cohort of children come from a wide range of cultural and socio‐economic backgrounds and we are committed to providing the best education possible for every child in our care. We are an inclusive school, catering to the needs of all pupils. We continuously strive to be a school where children can achieve full potential in their academic, creative, personal, physical, moral and spiritual development. The enjoyment of learning is promoted, recognised and rewarded and excellence is encouraged and facilitated. We have high expectations of self‐discipline and self‐reliance. Responsibility is encouraged and nurtured.
Rosh Pinah is a supportive community, ambitious for our pupils and the role that they will play in the future of their own communities. We instill in our pupils an awareness of the world beyond the school including community, environment, national and international events which are discussed in a caring and thoughtful manner. To that end, we aim to provide an exciting, integrated, coordinated curriculum which is rich, varied, challenging and makes strong links between subject areas and between the secular and Jewish curricula.
Our strong and effective environment of high standards of education is combined with warm, traditional Jewish values to create an encouraging atmosphere in which children can develop.
Jewish Studies staff teach pupils the values of Modern Orthodox Zionist Judaism, together with religious observance. Children understand and gain insight into the heart of Israel and its meaning for the Jewish people. The children learn Ivrit as a modern foreign language.
Year 1-6 follow the National Curriculum Programmes of Study and our teaching and learning is enriched by visits to places of interest, ‘hands-on’ workshops, speakers on a variety of topics and as well as exciting enrichment days which enhance the classroom experience.
Our Early Years curriculum is enhanced with specialist music, gymnastics and Ivrit teaching. Jewish festivals and themes are integrated into the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum thus combining a Jewish Studies curriculum that fosters a love for our Jewish heritage through its traditions, mitzvot and customs.
Our children are encouraged to take up extra-curricular activities which include: Israeli Dancing, Krav Maga, Spanish Club, Art, Chess, Netball, Football and Anim Zemirot. The school offers instrumental tuition and all musically able pupils are encouraged to perform in our annual Musical Soiree. The school choir performs in numerous out of school events.
