Hasmonean Primary School is a co-educational voluntary-aided school based in Hendon, London. Established in 1947, it caters for a total of 263 children with 30 children per year.
The nursery caters for 30 toddlers with an additional 20 places in a private pre-nursery. The nursery has one member of staff for every 10 children and this increases to one in four for the pre-nursery.
The school’s ethos is ‘Torah im Derech Eretz’ (Torah with respect for others) and there is a focus on Jewish Studies, with around 40% of an extended day taken up with the subject. The curriculum also covers, among other things, literacy, numeracy, science, humanities, art, music and physical education.
There are a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for the children including chess, breakfast, mishna, gemorra, art, zumba, homework, cookery, robotics, football and netball as well as boys’ and girls’ choirs.
There are hot meals available for reception through to year 6 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These are organised through the Parents Teachers Association and supplied by Barnet Kosher Kitchens.
Ofsted in 2015 noted that “the school’s values such as ‘love your neighbour as yourself’ permeate daily life and support well the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.” Ofsted in 2019 reiterated the school’s “good” status and described it as “a high attaining school in which pupils enjoy their learning”.
