Broughton Jewish Cassel Fox Primary School (BJPS) is an Academy  based in Salford, Manchester. Broughton Jewish Primary School was established in 1949, and in the early 1980s it amalgamated with Cassel Fox Infants School. In 1996 both schools moved onto the one site in Legh Road.

The school has 526 children on its roll, which includes a kindergarten, nursery, KS1 and KS2. It has recently moved to become  a three -form entry school with mixed classes, but from Key Stage 2 boys and girls are separated for Kodesh (religious) lessons.

BJPS is an orthodox Jewish school and all Chagim are celebrated and integrated with their secular curriculum. A dedicated Board of Governors are actively involved in school life at every level. Broughton Jewish Primary is known within the community as a warm, friendly family school and they are now teaching the children of former pupils. A hot lunch is provided each day for all pupils. There is a programme of extra-curricular activities before, during and after school including gymnastics, chess, personal fitness as well as art, Ivrit and football, and Y5 children go swimming regularly. Cycling proficiency lessons are offered in Y6.

BJCFPS have regular school trips, which are educational as well as enjoyable. Recent trips include the Science Museum, the Bridgewater Hall for a children’s concert and the local park to study insects. Year 6 enjoy a residential trip in the summer term. Guest speakers are invited into school, ranging from the Young Shakespeare Company to local rabbonim.

The school aims to provide an excellent education within the religious traditions of Orthodox Judaism. They promote traditional Jewish values whilst delivering the highest standards of Kodesh and secular studies within a warm and embracing Jewish atmosphere. By equipping pupils with understanding, knowledge and skills in Kodesh and secular studies, the school enables them to take their place as observant Jews in the modern world, and in everything they do they seek to promote good middos and to apply ‘Torah im Derech Eretz’.

BJPS emphasises the importance of Shabbos, Kashrus and Tznius in behaviour and dress. They ask parents to support and assist the school in the practical education of their children in these crucial areas of Jewish life. Pupils should experience no conflict between school education and home life. It is therefore important for parents to appreciate the school’s aspirations and work with them in all areas for the benefit of the children.
