A critical incident is usually an event that entails significant adversity of some form that has the potential to cause high levels of distress to people who have witnessed or been impacted by them.

The community’s Emergency Response Initiative Consortium has provided schools with key actions that schools can take to ensure the psychological safety of students and staff following a critical incident.  This includes the development of a CIT (Critical Incident Team) as well as guidance on essential communications and immediate resources available.
