Jewish Women’s Aid

Jewish Women’s Aid is the only specialist organisation in the UK supporting Jewish women and children affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.

What we do
Jewish Women’s Aid supports over 700 Jewish women and girls throughout the UK every year. We help women and girls 16+ nationally and 14+ in London who have experienced domestic abuse or sexual violence. We offer a range of services including: a domestic abuse helpline and webchat service, the Dina sexual violence support service, counselling, children’s therapy and specialist support workers. Our education team reach out to thousands of students each year in schools, youth movements and on university campuses. We also carry out awareness raising events and professionals’ training within the community.

What we offer schools
We offer a bespoke Healthy Relationships Curriculum for pupils in secondary schools, youth movements and university campuses. We are also beginning to grow our programme to reach out to Year 6 pupils in primary schools. Our interactive and engaging workshops complement the new RSE curriculum in schools and sensitively address challenging topics as well as understanding the religious ethos of every school we work with.

Examples of our secondary school workshops include:
Identifying healthy friendships and peer pressure
Healthy relationships and characteristics of unhealthy relationships
Introduction to relationship abuse, coercive control and domestic abuse
Impact of pornography in relationships
Exploitative relationships and grooming
Healthy relationships and consent

In depth workshops for sixth formers:
Power dynamics, the portrayal of women in the media and its impact
Everyday sexism, toxic masculinity and sexual assault
Healthy relationships and relationship abuse
Sexual violence and consent
Consent culture and prep for campus life

Staff and governor training could include:
Greater understanding of domestic abuse, sexual assault and its impact on children
Supporting families and pupils experiencing domestic abuse in the home
Creating a ‘consent culture’ in a school community
Addressing sexism and toxic masculinity as a whole school approach
Designing a healthy relationships curriculum
